Val di Fiemme is never short of major sporting events, and amongst the numerous events set to enliven the Olympic valley over the coming months, one of the highlights is undoubtedly the Rollerski World Cup. From September 18 to 20, three days of pure spectacle are on the programme, which will decide the winners of the coveted Crystal Globes.

The most important international ‘summer cross-country skiing’ event will thus return to Trentino following last year’s success, when the final stage took place during the FIS Nordic Summer Festival, promising another guaranteed spectacle this year on Alpe Cermis and through the streets of Ziano di Fiemme. All eyes will be on the discipline’s top athletes, who, armed with poles and roller skis, will compete against one another, spurred on by the cheers of the crowd, starting on Friday, September 18, when the curtain rises on the 10 km Mass Start on the challenging and thrilling climbs of Alpe Cermis. On Saturday, September 19, the action will move to Ziano di Fiemme for the 200-metre Sprint, an adrenaline-fuelled event that always delivers huge excitement and plenty of surprises. On Sunday, September 20, once again in Ziano, it will be the turn of the Team Sprint, a race that will test the athletes’ speed, endurance and tactical intelligence.

The FIS recently officially unveiled the World Cup calendar for the coming season, with three stages scheduled to kick off on August 28-30 from the Swedish town of Trollhättan, or Trollywood, as it is nicknamed due to its links with the film industry – followed by the World Championships in Latvia, in Madona, from September 3 to 6, and concluding with the grand finale in Val di Fiemme, from September 18 to 20.

The athlete who once again proved his champion’s mettle last year was Matteo Tanel, who won the Overall World Cup ranking for the third time following a neck and neck battle with the Latvian Raimo Vigants, managing to edge him out by a single point. His aim will surely be to secure a fourth title, and to achieve this special milestone, he will be able to count on the support of one more fan, having become a father at the start of the year.

Last year’s final stage in Fiemme also confirmed Swedish dominance: the Swedish national team can boast talented names in its roster, able to conquer three of the four overall rankings. Ville Jutterdal won the men’s junior ranking and Johanna Holmberg of the women’s one, whilst Ebba Stenman took the Senior and Sprint overall rankings. In the senior sprint rankings, however, the men’s title went to Emanuele Becchis, a four-time world sprint champion, who finished level on points with Michele Valerio but came out on top thanks to the greater number of victories achieved by the athlete born in 1993.

Following the success of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the season of major competitions in Val di Fiemme does not end with the Rollerski World Cupalone, but continues with the Nordic Combined World Cup, the Ski Jumping FIS Continental Cup and the final stage of the Tour de Ski.

These are events of absolute prestige, and the experienced Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme organising committee is already hard at work, aiming to raise even higher the standards that have made this valley in Trentino an international benchmark for Nordic disciplines and beyond.

With around three months to go, the Rollerski World Cup marks the first major step towards a new season of top-class sport for Val di Fiemme. All that remains now is to wait for the countdown to begin and look forward to a packed calendar of events promising spectacle, excitement and top-class athletes.
