BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., October 18th, 2026 Pedro Rodriguez, founder of Boynton Beach Martial Arts Academy, has expanded his personal protection education programs to reach more adults, workplaces, and community organizations in South Florida. The programs focus on prevention, situational awareness, and decision-making rather than physical technique alone.
Rodriguez is a Personal Protection and Violence Prevention Specialist with 46 years of experience in self-defense. He is a Senior Instructor in Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT) and a Senior Instructor in Jeet Kune Do under Paul Vunak. He holds a 9th Dan in Hapkido, a 5th Dan in Ju Jutsu, a 3rd Dan in Arnis, and a 1st Dan in Wing Chun, and he is a Level 2 Instructor in Krav Maga.
The curriculum treats personal safety as a series of decisions made before, during, and after a potential confrontation. Topics include recognizing behavioral warning signs, setting verbal boundaries, using de-escalation, positioning and movement to create opportunities to disengage, and understanding when escape and seeking help are the best options. Scenario-based learning allows participants to practice these principles in realistic situations.
"People deserve practical education that helps them make better decisions when their safety may be at risk," Rodriguez said. "Prevention comes first. Then we develop practical skills for situations where prevention alone may not be enough."
The programs can be adapted for different audiences, including adult groups, martial arts schools, workplaces, and community organizations. Content and format vary by audience, and the material is designed for participants with or without martial arts experience.
Rodriguez has also begun working with martial arts school owners and community groups interested in adding practical personal protection education to their own programming.
