North Lakes, Queensland, Australia – September 2026 – JKA/WF Australia, the Australian affiliate of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Japan, will hold its 2026 JKA/WF Queensland Inc Camp at Currimundi Recreational Camp on the Sunshine Coast from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25. The two-day residential event is being organised jointly by JKA WF Australia, JKA Pomona dojo and two other affiliated Queensland clubs, and will bring together karate students and instructors from separate dojos across the branch network to train together under a single program.
The camp forms part of JKA/WF Australia's annual training calendar, which also includes state seminars, gradings and inter-club championships held at various points through the year. Unlike weekly classes, which each affiliated dojo runs independently under its own instructor, the Currimundi camp is one of a small number of fixed events in the calendar where students and instructors from different clubs train side by side. JKA/WF Australia says events of this kind help keep technique and grading standards consistent across its network of affiliated dojos, which span Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the Northern Territory.
Registration for the camp was handled through TryBooking, with ticket sales closing on August 10. Attendance for JKA/WF Australia members was arranged through each member's individual club instructor, rather than through a single public booking channel. Non-members and visiting karate instructors were able to register separately by contacting the Queensland branch directly by email, a process the organisation also uses for its seminars and gradings.
The Currimundi camp follows the same format JKA/WF Australia has used for previous state camps, combining indoor technical sessions with outdoor and beach-based training over a fixed multi-day period. The organisation has run comparable camps and seminars in other states, including Victoria and New South Wales, as part of a broader national schedule coordinated with its state branches.
JKA/WF Australia is led by Chief Instructor Sensei Jason Naylor, 7th Dan JKA, who has taught karate since 1986. He founded the organisation's predecessor, the Australian Shotokan Karate-do Association, in 1991, before it was renamed JKA/WF Australia in 2009.
