New anthology documents immigrant women's stories of migration and belonging

TORONTO, ON, September 18, 2026 — Wondering Pages has released Voices Across Borders: Becoming Here, an anthology featuring personal stories from 15 immigrant women about migration, identity, culture, and belonging. Edited and curated by author and publisher Preethi Balasubramanian, the collection is available now. The book brings together first-person accounts that examine the experiences of leaving one country and building a life in another, offering a multi-voiced perspective on a subject that affects millions of people worldwide.

The anthology includes contributions from Preethi Balasubramanian, Shairose Gulamani, Kerstin Decook, Anurika Onyenso, Prenaka Ram, Ronnie Loaiza, Dr. Fatemeh Rezaei-Sajadinia, Mykim Tran, Saren Keang, Dr. Aninda Sidhana, First Lady Swinton, Glenis Moss, Karla Espinoza, Jeannette Harrington, and Symone Armstead. The contributors represent migration experiences across multiple countries and cultural contexts, addressing moves between cultures, generations, professions, and communities.

A four-part structure

Voices Across Borders: Becoming Here is organized into four sections: The Leaving, The Landing, The In-Between, and The Becoming. The structure follows different stages and dimensions of migration, from leaving familiar surroundings and arriving in a new country to adapting to change and developing a sense of identity and belonging.

The Leaving considers departure and what is carried forward. The Landing focuses on arrival and the early experience of establishing a life in a new environment. The In-Between addresses the complexities of living across cultures and identities. The Becoming considers how identity, belonging, and one's understanding of home can continue to develop over time. Together, the sections present migration as an ongoing process rather than a single event.

The collection considers the practical and personal changes that can accompany migration, including rebuilding careers, raising families, maintaining cultural traditions, and establishing new relationships and communities. Balasubramanian developed the anthology as an opportunity to document immigrant women's experiences through their own stories. Her work as an author, editor, curator, and publisher informed the project's focus on preserving personal narratives and creating a published collection that brings multiple immigrant experiences together.

"Migration is often described in terms of where someone came from and where they arrived. The stories in this collection create room for everything that happens between those two points," said Balasubramanian. "Each contributor brings a different experience, and together the chapters show how identity and belonging can continue to evolve long after the initial move."

Podcast component extends the project

The anthology also extends Balasubramanian's work through Wondering Pages, her author and publishing platform. The project includes a podcast component under the Voices Across Borders name, providing an additional format for conversations with contributors about their stories and experiences.

The book is available through Amazon. Additional information about the anthology and the podcast is available through Wondering Pages.
