Independent rapper, songwriter, beatmaker and producer SanMinor (Aleksandr Didenko) is entering a new phase of his independent music project, continuing to develop what he describes as “Dystopian Rap” - an author-defined musical concept that brings underground hip-hop into dialogue with technology, society, science fiction and possible futures.
The project examines a question increasingly relevant to everyday life: how does technological progress change people themselves?
Rather than focusing on technology as an end in itself, SanMinor’s work explores its possible effects on human behavior, personal freedom, relationships and the way people understand the world around them. Digitalization, algorithms, surveillance and increasingly complex technological systems are recurring themes throughout the project.
“I don't claim to create a new music genre in a strict academic sense. For me, ‘Dystopian Rap’ is an author's subgenre and a concept where hip-hop organically intertwines with the ideas of dystopian literature,”
- said SanMinor.
The concept developed gradually from SanMinor’s earlier work. His musical project began in 2014 with a stronger focus on personal subjects, relationships and observations of everyday life. A major thematic shift began in 2021 with the release of “1984,” a track inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel.
The direction continued through subsequent releases, including projects and tracks influenced by dystopian and science-fiction literature. The project’s discography includes “QR Code,” “To Be Human,” “Anti World,” and the “Brave New World” project, whose title references Aldous Huxley’s classic dystopian novel.
SanMinor describes these works not as predictions of the future, but as artistic explorations of possible social scenarios. The music combines elements of underground hip-hop with dark electronic textures, analog synthesizers and ideas drawn from dystopian literature.
“Today, many are debating whether AI can write a hit song. But what concerns me is something else: how will humans themselves change when algorithms start controlling their emotions and decisions?”
- SanMinor said.
The new phase of the project continues this direction while expanding the connection between hip-hop, technology and questions about possible futures. SanMinor is independently developing new recordings and releases as he works to build an international audience around the concept.
The artist’s approach places the emphasis on questions rather than definitive answers: what happens to human autonomy when technology becomes increasingly embedded in everyday decisions, relationships and culture?
