LOS ANGELES, August 12, 2026 — Independent rapper, songwriter and beatmaker SanMinor (Aleksandr Didenko) has announced a new phase in the development of his music project, centered on what he calls “Dystopian Rap,” an author-defined concept examining technological change, society and possible futures.
The announcement marks a further development of a project that began in 2014. SanMinor initially worked primarily with personal subjects, relationships and observations of everyday life before gradually moving toward broader questions about the relationship between people, technology and a changing society.
The shift became more pronounced in 2021 with the release of “1984,” a track inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel. Subsequent releases continued to explore related themes. Among them is the EP “Brave New World” (“Divny Novy Mir”), whose title references Aldous Huxley’s novel.
SanMinor says that these releases were not originally created as parts of a predefined genre. Instead, the connection between them became apparent as the project developed.
“I don't claim to create a new music genre in a strict academic sense. For me, ‘Dystopian Rap’ is an author's subgenre and a concept where hip-hop organically intertwines with the ideas of dystopian literature,” SanMinor said.
The concept focuses on the consequences of technological development rather than technology itself. SanMinor’s writing considers how digitalization, algorithms, surveillance and increasingly complex technological systems may affect people's behavior, relationships, freedom and understanding of the world around them.
Artificial intelligence is one of the technologies that can be considered within this broader subject, but it is not the sole focus of the project. The central question is how technological progress may change people and society over time.
“Today, many are debating whether AI can write a hit song. But what concerns me is something else: how will humans themselves change when algorithms start controlling their emotions and decisions?” SanMinor said.
The themes have appeared across several tracks, including “QR Code,” “To Be Human” and “Anti World.” Rather than presenting these songs as predictions, SanMinor describes them as attempts to examine possible social scenarios and encourage listeners to consider how current technological changes could influence the future.
The project combines influences from underground hip-hop with ideas associated with science fiction and dystopian literature. Musical influences from SanMinor’s earlier work include artists such as 2Pac and N.W.A., while later releases incorporated increasingly direct references to speculative fiction and questions about technological development.
SanMinor is continuing to develop the project independently through new recordings and releases. The next stage will continue the same thematic direction while expanding the relationship between hip-hop, technology and discussions about possible futures.
