The rankings are based on the latest annual education data submitted by nations to the 2025 OECD Education at a Glance Report, which evaluates key performance indicators, including student achievement, equity, access, innovation, and system efficiency.

Several European nations, led by Slovenia and the Netherlands, also show impressive gains in both performance and equity.”
The 2026 Q2 rankings highlight strong performances from Central and Eastern European countries, with Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Latvia all placing in the top 20. This reflects sustained investments in teacher training, digital infrastructure, and inclusive education policies across the region.
Mexico’s entry into the top 20 marks a notable achievement for Latin America, demonstrating significant progress in expanding access and improving learning outcomes. Meanwhile, traditional powerhouses such as Japan, China, and Germany continue to maintain competitive positions through innovation in STEM education and vocational training.
