DUBAI, UAE: Makana.com has completed one year of operations in Dubai, marking its first year of selling used heavy equipment to buyers in the UAE and international markets. During the year, which ended on September 1, 2026, the company sold 100 machines to buyers in nine countries.
Over the past year, Makana has developed a consignment-based model for buying and selling used construction machinery online. Equipment owners place their machines with Makana, which handles inspection, presentation and the sale process on their behalf, rather than the owner managing enquiries and buyers directly. During its first year, 17 consignors placed 314 machines with the company, with a combined consigned value of more than AED 60 million.
Before a machine is offered for sale, it may go through inspection and operational testing, depending on the equipment. Makana then prepares photographs, 3D and 360-degree views, technical specifications and an inspection report covering more than 75 checkpoints, giving buyers in other countries detailed information about a machine's condition before they commit to a purchase.
One of the company's key commitments to sellers is payment within three to five days of a completed sale. Makana's consignment service is designed for contractors, fleet owners and dealers who sell equipment when renewing a fleet, replacing an older machine, reducing unused equipment or releasing capital for a new project.
Machines sold during the year ranged from compact equipment used on everyday construction sites to specialised heavy machinery. Sales included 17 skid steer loaders, five wheel loaders, four boom loaders and one Komatsu PC850 long boom excavator, alongside machines from other categories.
Alongside fixed-price listings, Makana runs online machinery auctions, where inspected equipment is offered through competitive bidding. The company completed four auction events in its first year, with several buyers and sellers returning to take part in more than one auction.
"Our first year has shown that the buyer for a machine is not always in the same city, or even the same country, as the seller," said the Makana team. "When buyers have inspection reports and detailed information about the equipment, they are prepared to purchase used machinery from the UAE, and sellers gain access to demand well beyond the local market."
The company noted that demand for used machinery is spread across many markets, and that the buyer for a particular machine may be located in Dubai, Riyadh, Africa or Asia. Sales to nine countries during the year reflect that spread.
During its first year, Makana focused on building the operational foundation for cross-border machinery sales, including consignment intake, inspection, machine presentation, auction management and seller payouts. A summary of the company's first-year results has been published on its blog.
With the start of its second year, Makana opened bidding for its fifth auction on October 1, 2026, covering inspected machinery, vehicles and other lots. The company said it will continue to hold regular auctions and to connect equipment consigned in the UAE with buyers in regional and international markets.
