SIENA, Italy, June 9, 2026 — IIS Piccolomini announced today that students and teachers will present the official public screening of the short film "The Hope Palio" on June 9 and 10, 2026, in Siena. The screenings mark the conclusion of an educational filmmaking project developed through the national "Cinema and Images for Schools" program and are intended to share the results of a collaborative initiative focused on cultural heritage, civic education, and film literacy.
The short film is the result of an educational project developed within the national program “Cinema and Images for Schools,” promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit. The initiative involved students from different academic fields, including Classical Studies, Arts, Music, and Social Sciences, who participated in a structured audiovisual training experience.
Under the scientific coordination and production supervision of Paola Dei, and under the overall supervision of Principal Federico Frati, students were actively engaged in all stages of production. They worked as screenwriters, actors, musicians, and production assistants, gaining direct experience in film creation and storytelling.
Teachers also played an active role in the project. Marco Amabile, Stefania Giosa, Stefano Longo, Vania Orti, Maurizio Marco Tozzi, Stefano Caselli, and Angelo Petraglia collaborated closely with students throughout the entire process. Working alongside scientific coordinator Paola Dei and director Claudio Gnomus, they contributed to the creative development of the film and, in several cases, also appeared on screen. This cooperation created a shared learning environment between students and staff.
Additional support was provided by Giovanni Montesarchio and Mariarita Falbo, members of the IIS Piccolomini staff, who contributed to the organization and coordination of activities, strengthening collaboration among all participants.
The project went beyond traditional classroom learning and became a complete experience in film literacy. Through workshops and meetings with directors, scenographers, photographers, musicians, and costume designers, students explored cinema as a language of expression and communication. They addressed important themes such as peace, dialogue, coexistence, and social responsibility.
The story of the short film follows a 65-year-old contemporary philosopher traveling through territories affected by war before arriving in Siena. His journey becomes both physical and symbolic, representing memory, reflection, and the search for peace in a fragmented world.
The screenings scheduled for June 9 and 10, 2026, will involve the school community and local audiences, turning the event into a cultural occasion dedicated to education, creativity, and civic engagement.
