New Delhi, India – August 19, 2026 – Indian classical sitar musician Hidayat Husain Khan has announced the expansion of his Global Music Collaboration program, an initiative focused on creating structured exchanges between Indian classical music and musicians working in other musical traditions. The program will incorporate collaborative performances, educational sessions, and cross-cultural musical projects designed to examine the relationship between raga-based music and international approaches to composition and improvisation.

The program builds on Khan's experience in Indian classical performance and collaborative music. His contribution is rooted in the traditions of the Etawah-Imdadkhani Gharana, with particular attention to Gayaki Ang, an approach to sitar playing influenced by the phrasing and expressive qualities of Indian vocal music.

Under the expanded Global Music Collaboration program, participating musicians will explore areas including melodic development, rhythm, improvisation, instrumental communication, and ensemble performance. The objective is to provide a structured environment in which artists from different musical backgrounds can exchange ideas without removing the distinctive characteristics of their individual traditions.

Educational activity will form another part of the program. Planned formats include masterclasses, lecture demonstrations, workshops, and discussions addressing Indian classical music, sitar technique, raga interpretation, improvisation, and approaches to cross-cultural performance.

The initiative is also intended to provide students and emerging musicians with greater exposure to the processes involved in collaborative music. Educational institutions, cultural organizations, performing arts programs, and music communities will be able to explore opportunities for programs centered on Indian classical and cross-cultural musical exchange.

Rather than treating musical fusion as a single performance format, the Global Music Collaboration program will focus on the practical process of bringing different musical systems into conversation. This includes examining how musicians respond to different rhythmic structures, melodic frameworks, instruments, and improvisational methods.

Khan's previous work has included Indian classical performance, recordings, educational activities, and collaborations involving musicians from different backgrounds. The expanded program provides a framework for developing these activities further and presenting Indian classical sitar in a broader international context.

Details of confirmed performances, participating artists, educational sessions, dates, and locations will be published through Hidayat Husain Khan's official channels as individual programs are finalized.
