Jul 16, 2026 — Softaken Software has introduced a text extraction tool among its free online PDF utilities. This tool allows the user to extract readable text from a PDF document without installation or sending the file to an outside server. The tool is available now at: softaken.com/online/pdf-text-extractor.

The tool solves a common, but often clunky task: pulling plain text out of a PDF, so you can copy it into another document, search or edit it. Many online extractors that are available require the uploading of files to a remote server which can cause delays and become a concern when the document contains business or personal information. Softaken built its version to run entirely in the browser instead so files never leave the user’s device during processing.

To use the tool, drop a PDF in the upload area and the extractor will scan the document and show all readable text in a box on the page. From there, users can copy the text or save it for later use. The process performs no alteration in the source file and no data is sent to Softaken’s servers at any point.

It is best suited for PDFs that have selectable text already, like reports, contracts or e-books. You will not get extracted text for scanned documents that are saved only as images because there is no text layer underneath that can be read. It also does not retain original formatting (fonts, spacing, column layout, etc.) and is plain text for reuse and not an exact visual copy of the source.

The key features of the tool are:

  • • Complete text extraction in browser without uploading files

  • • Supports PDFs of any size, processing time depends on the size of the file

  • • Copy to clipboard and save the extracted text

  • • No creating an account or installing software

  • • Original PDF file remains untouched in the whole process

A representative of Softaken said, "The tool was built around a task that happens more often than people realize." From day one the priority was to do it locally, without anything being uploaded.

The text extraction tool is part of a wider suite of PDF utilities that Softaken has released in recent months for the browser, such as page extraction, page reordering and PDF compression. All tools in this suite are free and do not require registration. Softaken also has desktop PDF software that does a lot more for users who have a larger volume of files to process, or who need more advanced control over the formatting.
