Worlds First AI Charity Platform Launches Clean Water Appeal

AI-driven charity platform Donate Directly is launching a campaign to help provide access to safe, clean drinking water for vulnerable families, coinciding with National Water Quality Month.

Around the world, millions of people still lack access to clean water, forcing families to rely on unsafe sources that can lead to disease, poor sanitation and long-term health problems. Donate Directly, which describes itself as an AI-based charity platform, works to close this gap by matching donors directly with communities in need. Children are among those most affected, with waterborne illnesses remaining one of the leading causes of preventable illness and death in many developing countries.

Through its AI-powered platform, Donate Directly is encouraging individuals, businesses, schools and community groups across the UK to support clean water projects, including the construction of water wells and other water solutions in communities where clean drinking water remains out of reach.

National Water Quality Month is observed every August to raise awareness about protecting freshwater supplies, preventing pollution and ensuring access to safe drinking water.

Shakira Rahman, women's ambassador for Donate Directly, said:

"Access to clean water is a basic human right. Something as simple as turning on a tap is something millions of us take for granted every day, yet for countless families it remains out of reach. Through technology, we're making it easier for people to fund projects that support communities."

Donate Directly says it combines artificial intelligence with transparent giving, allowing donors to see where their money goes and receive updates throughout each project. Supporters can also create personalised fundraising pages, making it possible for schools, workplaces, sports clubs and community organisations to raise money for clean water initiatives.

According to the organisation, completed water projects provide communities with access to safer drinking water, reduce the risk of waterborne disease and free up time for children — particularly girls — who would otherwise spend hours each day collecting water instead of attending school.

Iqrar Ul Hassan, founder of Donate Directly, said:

"I have visited villages where families walk miles every day simply to collect water that still isn't safe to drink. A well can improve health, restore dignity and give children a better future."

The organisation also points to the longer-term environmental benefits of water infrastructure, saying it can help communities build resilience while protecting freshwater resources for future generations.

Donate Directly is inviting supporters across the UK to mark National Water Quality Month by sponsoring a water well, creating a fundraising page or making a donation. More information is available on the organisation's website.
