October 9, 2026 — Thousand Oaks, California — DCM Moguls has released a 2026 report examining changes in search behavior and website visibility following the increased adoption of AI-assisted search experiences. The report analyzed 1,000 websites across 10 business categories to examine content structure, technical SEO factors, and the presence of information commonly used during online research.
The analysis found that 64% of the websites reviewed had content covering fewer than three major search intents associated with their primary topics. A further 47% contained pages with limited supporting information beyond the primary subject of the page.
The report also found that 38% of the websites analyzed had technical issues affecting at least one aspect of search accessibility. The most frequently identified issues involved internal linking, duplicate page elements, missing metadata, and incorrect canonical implementation.
AI-assisted search was another area examined in the report. Among the 1,000 websites reviewed, 29% had content structured around clearly defined questions and answers, while 71% primarily used conventional article structures.
The research covered websites operating across professional services, healthcare, home services, retail, technology, education, finance, hospitality, manufacturing, and real estate. Data was collected between July 1 and September 30, 2026.
The report found that websites with broader topic coverage were more likely to have content addressing multiple stages of the search journey. Among the analyzed websites, 56% included informational content alongside commercial or transactional pages, while 44% focused primarily on pages intended to generate direct conversions.
Local search was also included in the analysis. Of the 600 businesses serving defined geographic markets, 34% had consistent business information across the primary online directories reviewed. The remaining websites showed at least one inconsistency involving business name, address, telephone number, or other location information.
The report comes as search interfaces continue to evolve beyond conventional lists of website results. AI-generated summaries, conversational search interfaces, local results, product information, and other search features are creating additional ways for users to discover information.
The findings indicate that search visibility is increasingly influenced by a combination of content relevance, technical accessibility, website structure, and the breadth of information available to users.
The report is intended to provide a snapshot of website and search behavior during 2026 and document the changes taking place as AI-assisted search becomes a more significant part of the online discovery process.
