Exposing e-commerce price manipulation

AALBORG, DENMARK -- August 27, 2026 --

Danish technology startup Swuupi has officially launched a new automated price tracking platform designed to monitor e-commerce pricing fluctuations. The service aims to address the growing consumer challenge of artificial price inflation prior to major retail sales events by providing chronological, unedited historical pricing data.

Retail pricing models have increasingly relied on dynamic adjustments, making it difficult for consumers to determine the validity of promotional discounts. To navigate this, Swuupi introduces a system built on a framework it describes as "Quiet Intelligence." Available as a free browser extension, the software functions passively in the background, logging daily prices across hundreds of retailers. It utilizes Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) and barcodes to match exact products across different storefronts, ensuring accurate market comparisons.

The core of the platform is its ability to calculate the objective fair value of a product based solely on historical market data. When a user views an item online, the system evaluates the current listing against its chronological price history. If the data indicates that the current price is artificially inflated, the interface displays a neutral amber "Wait" indicator. Conversely, when a price drops below its historical baseline, the system issues a single email alert containing a direct link to the retailer offering the lowest price.

"Retailers adjust their prices dynamically, which means keeping track of when a product reaches a fair price requires significant manual effort," states Kim Bengtsen, founder of Swuupi. "We developed a machine learning engine that monitors these market movements for the consumer. Our logs are strictly chronological, allowing our checking logic to actively trace dynamic pricing movements over time without manipulation."

In addition to standard price monitoring, Swuupi incorporates artificial intelligence features to streamline the consumer experience. These include a live-data chatbot for structured catalog searches, as well as the Smart Shopper and Premium Personal Shopper tools. Through the Personal Shopper feature, users can input plain-language descriptions of desired items—specifying brand, variant, color, and maximum budget—without requiring a direct product link. The artificial intelligence then scans the market over a five-day period, adding verified matches to a watchlist and dispatching email notifications when target prices are met.

Swuupi currently offers a free tier for basic price alerts, alongside a Premium tier that enables automatic cross-store matching, comprehensive price-history charts, and instant notifications. While operations are currently focused on the Danish e-commerce market, the company plans to expand its tracking capabilities to Sweden, Norway, and Finland in the near future.
