QUEENSLAND, Australia – July 24, 2026 – Softaken today announced the launch of Softaken IMAP Mail Backup, a software tool designed to help users create offline backups of IMAP-enabled email accounts. The tool aims to address risks such as unintentional deletion, cyber threats, account breaches, synchronization issues, and service outages that can affect cloud-based email services.

Cloud email services are widely used for their flexibility, remote accessibility, and device synchronization. However, these platforms remain vulnerable to data loss from ransomware, phishing, account lockouts, synchronization errors, and retention policy restrictions. Without independent backups, recovering lost mailbox data can be difficult or impossible.

Softaken IMAP Mail Backup allows users to create local backups of IMAP mailbox data, maintaining ownership of emails regardless of internet connectivity or account status. The software is intended for business continuity, regulatory compliance, email migration, and long-term archiving.

The tool supports multiple export formats including PST, MBOX, EML, EMLX, and MSG, enabling migration and archiving across different email applications. It preserves folder hierarchy, attachments, metadata, timestamps, sender and recipient details, and email formatting. Users can select specific folders to back up, reducing backup time and storage requirements.

Softaken IMAP Mail Backup is compatible with a range of IMAP-enabled email providers and runs on modern Windows operating systems. The backup process involves entering IMAP account credentials, reviewing mailbox folders, selecting an export format, and choosing a destination.

For organizations, maintaining offline backups of critical communications can reduce the impact of ransomware attacks, cloud service disruptions, accidental employee actions, and account accessibility issues. This approach supports business continuity and ensures access to important email records.

A Softaken spokesperson said, “Organizations increasingly rely on cloud email services, but cloud storage alone should never be considered a complete backup strategy. Our goal is to increase customers' confidence in protecting their digital communications while streamlining email security.”

Softaken IMAP Mail Backup is available as a free trial for users to evaluate before purchasing a licensed version.
