India, Chinmaya Mission is a global spiritual and educational organization that disseminates the wisdom of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita through study, service, and self-improvement. The organization has received the official Guinness World Record title for the highest number of people reciting online simultaneously. During the global event 'Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam,' a total of 8,277 people recited the 15th Chapter (Purushottama Yoga) of the Bhagavad Gita together. This achievement broke the previous Guinness World Record of 5,188 participants, setting a new world record.
This record was set as part of the 'Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav,' a year-long celebration marking the 75th anniversary of the Chinmaya movement. Inspired by the vision of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, the initiative aimed to connect people worldwide with the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, enabling them to recite together and experience devotion, contemplation, and spiritual unity.
More than 75,000 people from over 70 countries registered for the initiative, with over 32,000 joining the live online recitation. Following a rigorous verification process by Guinness World Records, 8,277 participants were confirmed to have met all the criteria. This achievement was made possible by children, youth, families, and devotees coming together from across the globe. It was significantly supported by approximately 1,000 trained volunteers who not only managed the event but also assisted people of all ages in connecting online and adhering to the guidelines. Chinmaya Mission also extended its heartfelt gratitude to the event's technology partner, Cisco Webex, which facilitated seamless connectivity for people across the globe through more than 800 online meetings. Additionally, the Mission thanked the Gita Parivar, SGS Avadhoota Datta Peetham, and the entire Chinmaya Mission family for their unwavering support.
Speaking on the occasion, the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, Pujya Swami Swaroopananda, said, "This honor is not merely about celebrating a world record; it is a celebration of the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita reaching hearts across the globe. Every participant became part of a collective spiritual endeavor that transcended the boundaries of geography, language, and culture. True success lies not in the numbers, but in our shared commitment to living the values of the Bhagavad Gita and advancing Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of taking Vedanta to everyone. We dedicate this achievement to the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and express deep gratitude for Gurudev’s grace, which continues to inspire millions of people worldwide."
This achievement signifies far more than just a Guinness World Record title; it demonstrates the enduring relevance of the Bhagavad Gita’s universal teachings in today’s interconnected world. Furthermore, it reinforces Chinmaya Mission’s resolve to disseminate the wisdom of Vedanta to all through modern platforms, fostering spiritual learning, cultural connection, and collective well-being across borders.
