Author Elizabeth Garvey announced the September 25, 2026, release of Life Doesn't Balance: How to Navigate the Waves, Release What's Keeping You Stuck, and Live from Your Heart. The book examines life balance and the shifting priorities people face at different stages and in different circumstances.

The book grew out of Garvey's observations about expectations around balance and the difficulty of giving equal attention to relationships, careers, family responsibilities, health, finances, identity, and faith at the same time. Rather than describing balance as a permanent state, the book considers how priorities change as circumstances change.

“Perhaps the wrong question is being asked,” Garvey said. “Life doesn't balance. The better question is how to navigate life without losing self.”

Garvey organizes part of the book around six areas she calls Heart Blocks: stress and anxiety, comfort zones, decisions and indecision, miscommunication, blocked emotions, and health and diagnoses. The book also presents Garvey's four-part Heart Reconnection Framework, which organizes its discussion around identifying underlying concerns, examining burdens and patterns, reconnecting with Christian faith and personal values, and considering how those factors relate to daily decisions.

The book draws from Garvey's personal experiences, client experiences, research, Christian faith, and professional work. It also examines the distinction between an experience and the lessons a person takes from that experience. Examples include the relationship between anger and boundaries and between fear and discernment.

Another theme the book addresses is how priorities can change over time. A career may require greater attention during one period, while family responsibilities, health concerns, relationships, finances, or faith may require greater attention during another. The book examines these changes as part of the broader discussion about whether equal attention across all areas of life is a realistic definition of balance.

Garvey wrote the book after observing recurring discussions about balance in both her personal and professional experiences. The book focuses on the questions people face when circumstances change, and previous priorities, routines, or expectations no longer fit their current situations.
