Big Apollo Spectra Hospital, a multispeciality facility in Patna, Bihar, has been empanelled under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) for MC-Cardiology. The empanelment allows eligible beneficiaries to receive cardiac treatment at the hospital without upfront payment. Coverage applies to diagnostic and interventional procedures, subject to the scheme's package rules and the hospital's authorisation process.

The cardiology department provides services ranging from outpatient consultations to interventional procedures. Diagnostic services include ECG, echocardiography and stress testing. Interventional procedures include angioplasty, pacemaker implantation and cardiac catheterisation. Patients with chest discomfort or breathlessness can consult the department for assessment and treatment planning, now covered under the cashless arrangement.

The hospital is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). The cardiology department operates a catheterisation lab with critical care support, enabling procedures such as angioplasty to be performed on-site.

Angiography, a diagnostic procedure to identify blockages in coronary arteries, is included under the cashless coverage. The procedure helps physicians determine whether angioplasty or a referral for bypass surgery is required. Early diagnosis before symptoms progress is generally associated with lower treatment costs and reduced clinical risk, according to hospital officials.

The cardiology unit also provides assessment for patients presenting with acute chest discomfort. Specialists are available for urgent evaluation of patients arriving with sudden symptoms, and these patients can access the benefits of the cashless scheme for cardiac treatments.

Eligibility under PMJAY is determined through the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database and RSBY beneficiary records. The scheme provides coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, applicable across all family members without restriction on family size. Details on eligibility criteria and the treatment process are available in the hospital's published resource on the Ayushman Scheme for Cardiology Patients.

A hospital spokesperson said the PMJAY empanelment allows patients in the region to access cardiac evaluation and treatment under the scheme's cashless provisions, without requiring payment at the point of admission.

The outpatient cardiology clinic operates on a scheduled basis. Patients are required to carry their Aadhaar and Ayushman card, or beneficiary ID, for eligibility verification. Where a physical Ayushman card has not yet been issued, Aadhaar-linked records can be verified at the hospital's Ayushman Mitra help desk.

The cardiology department also offers a heart check-up package intended to identify cardiac risk factors during routine screening. Any interventional treatments if required are covered under the scheme, where applicable.

Patients seeking cardiology consultation under PMJAY coverage can register through the hospital's outpatient department at Sheetla Mandir, Agamkuan, Patna. The administrative team processes pre-authorisation and eligibility verification as part of hospital admission.
