Batería Clara, an online academy founded by Sabrina Muñoz González and Sofía Fernández Santos, launched in October 2026 to provide specialized training on battery energy storage systems (BESS) for professionals in Spain. The academy addresses the growing need for practical knowledge as battery storage plays an increasingly significant role in the electricity sector, from residential self-consumption to renewable energy projects. Based in Spain and delivered in Spanish, Batería Clara aims to help installers, engineers, technicians, and commercial professionals understand the technology, evaluate its applications, and apply that knowledge to real-world projects.

Both founders are active professionals in the photovoltaic sector. Muñoz González is a quality expert with over fifteen years of experience in designing technical training programs. Fernández Santos is a commercial director with over twenty years of experience in business development and sales. Their combined expertise informs the academy's curriculum, which covers technical and commercial aspects of energy storage.

Battery storage presents new challenges for the photovoltaic sector. Understanding usable capacity, power ratings, charge and discharge strategies, energy management systems, and the requirements for providing backup power during an outage is essential for designing appropriate solutions and accurately explaining their capabilities. Batería Clara addresses these topics with content tailored to the Spanish context, covering regulations, safety, system design and sizing, communications, applications, grid quality, and commercial aspects. The training combines videos, written materials, and assessments; upon completion, participants receive certificates and verifiable LinkedIn badges.

"We see many people who are knowledgeable about solar panels and inverters, but who get lost when the conversation shifts to usable kWh, depth of discharge, or charging strategies," explains Sabrina Muñoz González, co-founder of Batería Clara. "We wanted practical training—in Spanish and tailored to the local market."

The initiative goes beyond training content. The Batería Clara website features free calculators for sizing batteries, analyzing their potential profitability for homes, and estimating electricity bill savings for businesses. It also provides guides and articles covering regulations, taxation, tariffs, and available subsidies.

The academy operates via an online subscription, allowing each student to progress at their own pace and access new content as it is added. The goal is to facilitate continuous professional development without requiring an intensive time commitment or a large initial investment. The curriculum covers both the technical aspects of energy storage and its commercial application—a particularly relevant dimension in a market where purchasing decisions depend not only on potential savings but also on factors such as warranties, safety, profitability, and backup requirements.

"Batteries are no longer sold solely on the basis of savings. Clients ask about backup capabilities, warranties, and regulations. Those who can provide informed, sound answers are more successful at selling and less prone to making mistakes," notes Sofía Fernández Santos, co-founder of Batería Clara.

To help users get started, the platform offers three free introductory units covering battery technologies, the fundamentals of energy storage, and cell chemistry. Through Batería Clara, its founders aim to ensure that expertise in battery technology is no longer a niche specialization reserved for a select few, but rather an accessible tool for the various professionals involved in the development, installation, maintenance, and commercialization of energy solutions.

The academy can be found at bateriaclara.com, where users can explore available courses, access free resources, and review subscription details.
